When that had completed, Windows Hello reported that it was not available.
HP FINGERPRINT READER SOFTWARE WINDOWS 10 DOWNLOAD INSTALL
until I did the fresh install of Windows 10 to resolve the Updates failures. When I began to use Windows Hello, there were regular failures, either in Hello or in SimplePass and I concluded that there may be some incompatibility with Windows 10 (subsequently confirmed by an HP Support agent when helping me to sort out a different issue.Īfter I removed the SimplePass software, retaining the fingerprint reader driver, Windows Hello worked seamlessly. I never could get it to work launching programs or apps on my notebook though. I found it to be fairly awkward to use - although once set up, it seemed to work well in launching websites. I had decided some time ago to stop using the SimplePass software.

Thank you for your clear response to my problems with the fingerprint reader on my Envy dv7.

Perhaps I need to get a separate driver for the fingerprint reader.Ĭan one of you seriously competent specialists out there give me a hand with this please? I am wondering if I need to install some elements of SimplePass - or perhaps a later version of SimplePass. I have ensured that I have a login PIN but when I try to setup Windows Hello, I get the message that it is not available on this machine. I eventually managed it with help from Microsoft Support but when the (fresh) install had completed, I was not able to use Windows Hello and the fingerprint reader did not appear to be working. I recently had great difficulty upgrading my machine to Windows 10 Build 1703 (the Creator's Edition). The main problems were experienced with HP SimplePass and as I really only wanted to use Windows Hello, I uninstalled SimplePass and Win Hello worked fine.

The incompatibilities were not having dramatic effects and I was keen to ensure that I kept bang up to date with Windows to avoid security problems. Conversations with HP Support agents got the response that neither 8.1 nor Win 10 are supported OS's on this machine. At each upgrade of OS there were some features that appeared to be incompatible with both 8.1 nad Win 10. Shortly after getting the notebook, I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and then, later still, Windows 10. I have a HP Envy dv7 - 7338EA which I bought new in late 2013 with Windows 8 installed.
